PERMACEL was originally founded in 1927 as a division of Johnson & Johnson to produce and market masking tapes. In 1982, the company was acquired by Avery International Corporation. In 1988, Permacel was acquired by Nitto Denko Corporation and became a wholly owned subsidiary of Nitto Denko for the express purpose of manufacturing and selling various industrial tapes.
